Professor Dr. Benjamin Côrte-Real was one of the first rectors of the National University of Timor Lorosa'e (UNTL) - East Timor. In 2023, he received the Education Award at the 7th edition of the Lusophony Awards Gala in Estoril, Portugal, in recognition of his work of excellence in Timorese education. He is a linguist and author of the thesis, Mambai and its verbal art genres - A cultural reflection of Suro-Ainaro, East Timor, defended at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, in 1998. He was the first director of the National Institute of Linguistics at UNTL.
